News From Rebeca Seals

A Missionary serving in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico

On Tuesday, September the 16th, a special service celebrating Independence Day here in Mexico was held on the camp grounds. Bro. Diego Flores brought the message of “Responding to the Call.” That night we had an attendance of 120, and there was a good fellowship time with all. The ladies did an excellent job in bringing food that had the flag colors, green, white and red. We had a special prize for those who brought the best looking food. They all enjoyed this time, and we thank the Lord for the time we had with all the churches and missions. Also on this night the mother of the two children from the mission in Tekit, who have been coming to Sunday School, came to this special service and for the first time heard the Gospel. There were also other visitors that came, and we ask you to pray with us for another opportunity to share the Gospel with them in their homes.

The World is at Our Doorstep

Missionaries James & Karen Howard

Most people do not think of Canada as a mission field; however, the world has come to our northern neighbor. In the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) where James and Karen Howard labor half of the population is foreign born. Close to 65% of the city’s six million people speak an immigrant language. More than 150 languages are spoken in the GTA! Truly, the world is at our doorstep.

James and Karen will be in the United States for just a couple of months in order to raise some much needed support. Please consider having them in your church. Many unreached peoples can be reached through the Howards in Toronto!

Rebeca Seals October 2014 Prayer Letter

This letter was written by BIO Missionary, Rebeca Seals.

Dear Friends,
In my last letter we were just beginning VBS. The mission of Tekit proved to be a great blessing with an attendance that reached one hundred and the result of two children now faithful to Sunday school. VBS in Timucuy was next, and the ladies did a good job bringing in the children. During the VBS in the Mission of Pixyah, we had the great blessing of having Miss Linda Castleberry with us. She was involved in teaching the children and helping during game time, and took lots of pictures for us. On Tuesday, August 12, we had the great honor of welcoming Bro. Jim Long and his family. They were a great joy and blessing to have during the VBS of Tecoh, which this year took place for 4 days. Enclosed is a letter from Bro. Long about their time with us, please be sure to read. The last 3 nights of VBS in the mission of X-Kanchacan resulted in two professions of Faith, and 16 children in Sunday school the very next day! We praise the Lord for all the good attendance and results in the different Vacation Bible Schools.

As mentioned above, Miss Linda Castleberry came to be with us for two weeks. We had a good time with her, and she got to see a lot of our day in and day out activities, and was very much involved in the day to day preparations for the ministry. During her time with us the Lord began dealing with her heart about missions and she responded to the Call of being a missionary. We rejoice with her and we ask you to pray with us for this special young lady as she begins her journey to becoming a missionary.

On Tuesday September the 16th a special service celebrating Independence Day here in Mexico was held on the camp grounds. Bro. Diego Flores brought the message of “Responding to the Call”. At this time I take the opportunity to thank each and every one of you for praying for our family as we have been facing cancer treatments alongside my Mom. She is about half way done with Chemo, and in mid October she will begin Radiation. We thank the Lord for the opportunity we will have to be with her for a few days at the beginning of October. Once again thank you for all your prayers for her during this time.

In Christ,

Rebeca Seals

SMART Module — Leadership Development

Questions for missionaries to consider:

  1. How much thought have you given to the overall scope of your training ministry?
  2. Besides Bible doctrine, what else do you plan to teach them?
  3. Have you considered giving them leadership training too?

BIO is hosting a SMARTraining seminar on Leadership Development. This two-day training session holds great potential for making you a more effective missionary, particularly in the area of training nationals. During the ten hours of classroom time you will be shown leadership skills that will enable you to successfully lead those whom God assigns to serve under your supervision. With such knowledge you will have a model of how to train nationals to be effective leaders also.

Some of the class titles are:

  • Leadership Styles; when and where to use them
  • Leadership Self-assessment
  • Basic Skills of Outstanding Leadership
  • Developing Accountability
  • Why an expert is not always the best leader
  • Losing at Leadership
  • Resolving Conflicts
  • Building Trust

Details

  • November 13 & 14, 2014 at the BIO Training Center in Jefferson City, Tennessee
  • 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Thursday & Friday; lunch will be provided both days
  • Open to men and women

For those of you who are coming to the fall meeting at Pigeon Forge I encourage you to stay in East Tennessee for two extra days and take advantage of some very practical instruction in the area of Leadership Development.

Action on Your Part

If you plan to attend this seminar, you can reserve a spot by emailing us. Please include the name(s) of those coming with you. If you have questions regarding this seminar please email.

About the Speaker

The main speaker will be Wayne Martin; he is a dedicated Christian with a heart for serving people. For most of his career he was involved in training department leaders for a Fortune 500 company. Wayne is now retired; he and his wife live in East Tennessee.

Certainly this training will prove to be invaluable to all that are involved in training nationals. I wish I would have had such instruction before we went to the field. For now though, I plan to be in this meeting as a student; I hope to see you there too!

News From Shawn & Leslie Beliveau

Missionaries serving in Vancouver, British Columbia

Another two weeks of camp YES has come to a close. We had four campers and two teen helpers attend junior camp and four teens enjoyed teen week. Leslie and I were counselors during teen camp.

We are so grateful for what God did. One child who rides our van to church trusted Christ, and other young people sought direction regarding their next step in life. Some made a decision to memorize Scripture more frequently, and still others said they wanted to be more consistent in their Christian life (a topic that was preached about at teen camp). We now begin the process of helping these young people grow and stick to their decisions.

We are so thankful to Pastor Conner and the wonderful people at Greater Vancouver Baptist Church who host camp each year. All the children and teens at Urban Community Baptist Church talk about camp for weeks after it is over, and they are already eager for next summer.

Missionaries Shane & Kathy Rice

After many years serving God in Peru the Lord has led Shane and Kathy Rice to relocate to the field of Italy. In their most recent prayer letter Shane writes, “When we arrived in Peru about 12 years ago, we had a total of 26 bags packed at 70 lbs with only 4 children then. We now were leaving Peru with 6 children and 22 bags all packed at 50 lbs.” He later wrote, “We left many things behind, but we pray the biggest thing left was a testimony that pleased God.”

The Rice family left much more than that. They left many souls saved and lives changed. They left behind an indigenous local church with a national pastor. Alternatively, they brought much more back as well. They brought back many years of excellent missionary experience. They brought back fluency in the Spanish language. Knowing Spanish will help them quickly have a working knowledge of Italian since they are both Romantic languages. Italy is a very needy field. I thank God that He is sending such capable missionaries. You can follow them at ricefamilyministries.com.

Beliveau Summer 2014 Prayer Letter

Urban Updates Summer 2014

Fun at Camp YES

Another two weeks of camp YES has come to a close. We had four campers and two teen helpers attend junior camp and four teens enjoyed teen week. Leslie and I were counselors during teen camp.

Children playing games at camp YES.We are so grateful for what God did. One child who rides our van to church trusted Christ and other young people sought direction regarding their next step in life.

All the children and teens at Urban Community Baptist Church talk about camp for weeks after it is over and they are already eager for next summer.

In family news, Anna has begun working on obtaining her drivers license. The process for obtaining a drivers license is a lengthy one here, but hopefully soon she will be able to begin driving…well maybe hopefully soon if you know what I mean? It’s actually hard for us to believe she is old enough to drive.

Leslie will begin making preparations for another year of teaching school and all of us will also be busy with fall ministry plans. It’s been a busy summer and it’s hard to believe fall will be here soon.

Praises & Prayer Requests

  • We praise the Lord for His sustaining grace during the gay pride parade once again.
  • We are thankful for the many decisions young people made at camp.
  • We rejoice that over the last couple of weeks we have had some visitors attend church.
  • We would like to ask you to pray for the salvation of several people we are doing all we can to share the gospel with. The Lord knows their names and we just ask you would bring them to His throne with us.
  • All the young people who made decisions at camp will need much prayer for strength and grace to carry through with their decisions.
  • We would also appreciate prayers for our continued summer outreach as well as our fall plans. We will begin a Bible club in the public high school this fall.

I know I say it often, but we are truly thankful for all you do for us, both in the giving of finances and in praying for us. We are honoured to be a part of your missionary team and pray the Lord will richly bless your ministry as well.

With Very Grateful Hearts,

Shawn, Leslie, & Anna Beliveau
