Missionaries serving in Zambia

Several months ago, a lady started attending our services with her mother. Her mother is one of the first people we were blessed to lead to the Lord and see discipled. I had always felt that this young lady seemed somewhat resistant to the Word. Earlier this past month, God impressed upon our heart to stop and share the Gospel with her. We had done this before, and she had heard the Gospel preached on a weekly basis during the church services; nevertheless, I felt a strong prodding of the Holy Spirit to do so. Words cannot explain what a joy it was to watch the Word of God do its work as we shared with her, once again, the Gospel from the Scriptures. I will never forget looking at her as God saved her soul from Hell. Words cannot explain how wonderful it is that we can have a part in sharing the greatest story ever told. May we never become bored or complacent with what we have been given. This particular lady was recently baptized along with another young man, and we are continuing to disciple her.

Training Center Coming Soon

We praise the Lord for providing the funds for the second phase of our new office building in Jefferson City, TN—the BIO Training Center. This 2,400 square foot facility will have a large classroom with a capacity for 60 students that will include audio, video and live streaming capabilities. The training center will also include a warm up kitchen for meal preparations, a media lab for preparing multimedia presentations, a shop area for specific maintenance and repair training, and a library and resource room.

We plan to dedicate this center on November 12, 2014. It will be used for our annual training school, our SMART modules, and other regional meetings. This facility will be a great resource whereby BIO can invest more effort on Building Durable Missionaries Who Keep on Going.

A New Field Opening in Sulawesi

Bill & LaMoin Cunningham left today for Indonesia. The Lord has given them the wonderful opportunity of opening up a new field in Manado, North Sulawesi. Sulawesi is an Indonesian island; it is the eleventh largest island in the world.

Right now Berens Dein, a seasoned national missionary, is clearing land for a church building and orphanage. God has already provided the funds for these facilities. There will be a Bible Institute started there soon too. Bill and LaMoin will build an eight foot high concrete fence around the property while they are there. This will serve to protect the children and coming building materials. Please pray for them and for the Gospel to be established on this needy island.

Missionaries in the Middle East

“We were visiting a village in the desert recently when God opened to us an amazing opportunity to share the Gospel with a friend there, whom we’ll call M. Islam teaches many of the stories from the Bible (Abraham, Joseph, David) but with the glaring exception that, according to the Koran, Jesus never died on the cross. M. considered this just a small difference of no real consequence. So the Lord allowed me to tell him why the cross means everything! I have never seen anyone in such anxiety over the thought of the Judgement. He said he has questioned in the past if Islam was truly the “right religion”. I believe there are many with these same doubts and questions. We sat around a campfire until early the next morning talking about the Lord. I wish I could spend every day sharing the Word so freely, with the Holy Spirit so evident.”

A Blessed Trip

The Lord allowed me and two of my children to travel to Romania to encourage one of our missionaries. God gave us a profitable trip. We were encouraged by two things.

The first thing that encouraged us was the spiritual depth of the Romanian Churches. It thrilled our souls to see God’s people pray (as many as 25 in one service) and worship God together for over 2.5 hours. This was not an isolated incident; it was the usual pattern in all four of the churches that we visited.

Secondly, we were encouraged by the work that our missionary, Gemma Mastromarino, is doing. It was a thrill to see the gifts that God has given her being used to meet the exact need of the Romanian Churches. I rejoice that BIO can have a part in what God is doing in Romania.

Missionaries Jeremy and Ling

On July 31, this dear family will return to the field of their calling. God has given them a profitable ministry in the Far East. Now that they have visited friends and family and have raised a little more support on their furlough they are headed back.

God has opened an opportunity for them to minister among some of the least reached people of this world. Please pray for them as they travel, resettle, and engage once again in preaching and teaching the Word of God.

Christiansens June 2014 Prayer Letter

Dear Friends, Family, and Prayer Warriors,
We were visiting a village in the desert recently when God opened to us an amazing opportunity to share the Gospel with a friend there, whom we’ll call M. I wish I could spend every day sharing the Word so freely, with the Holy Spirit so evident.

M. asked us to pray for his best friend who was having a dangerous surgery the following week. Our family prayed together that the friend would at least live long enough to hear the Gospel. But he died a week later. Our children grieved with us and said, “But he never even had a chance to hear the gospel!” They thought of the millions of lost Muslims all around us, and made the obvious conclusion, “We need more Christians to come here. Why don’t they come?” Of course our kids have always known why we are here, but it was exciting to see God show them the need. Please pray with us for laborers. Maybe someone reading this letter will be part of the answer.

M. later came to visit us at our home. He accepted an Arabic Bible to read. He lives very far from me, but has kept in touch by phone. Please pray for God to do the work in his heart that only He can do. It excites me to think of the Gospel spreading through this Bedouin village. The Bedouins are a very needy unreached people group. I don’t know of anybody in our country trying to reach them. They need your prayers and they need more laborers to teach and preach the Gospel to them.

Every lost soul is in Satan’s kingdom locked behind the gates of hell. Jesus said the gates of hell would not prevail against His church (Mt. 16:18). Gates don’t move, so Jesus was assuming the church would be on the offensive. Our great weapon is prayer.

Missionaries to Zambia

It’s harvest time in Zambia, and village farmers are moving throughout the area with ox carts full of maize. Pastor Sianjomwa stated that this is the best harvest he has seen in three years. We plant the seed; God sends the sunshine and rain. We tend the fields, and God gives the increase.

In mid May a soulwinning conference was held in Maala. Six preachers from the Toka Leya tribe came to help teach the church members there how to reach out with the gospel. The Maala congregation worked hard to extend hospitality and prepare for a crowd. The conference had just begun when word was received that Namaambo, a 29 year old mother of three, had passed away. The conference was halted as she was laid to rest. The village pastors preached the gospel at the funeral. The family was comforted with the knowledge that Namaambo had been saved last year. Many of the family were from the other side of the Kafue River, and several of them turned to Christ and spiritually bonded with the church family…

Missionary Training School

The Lord blessed us with another great training school this month. The theme this year was “Numbering our Days” from Psalm 90:12, “So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.” Missionaries serving in Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America attended.

The sessions were very practical and covered a variety of topics such as legal and health documents, money matters, deputation, nutrition and health, and culture to name a few. It was an intense week, but one that will benefit our missionaries for years to come.

Thank you to all of you who prayed. The next missionary training school will be June 22-26, 2015.

Sykes Family PhotoMissionaries Set to Depart

Missionaries Jason & Sarah Sykes

Deputation is coming to an end for Jason and Sarah Sykes. Since they spent time in Costa Rica studying Spanish the only thing between the Sykes and Venezuela is the acquisition of their visas and the rest of their outfit and passage fund.

God has given the Sykes a tremendous contact at the consulate in New Orleans. They have been encouraged by the communication that they have received from the consulate. Pray for their visas to be granted. Pray for the rest of the funds that they need to move to Venezuela.
