Louisiana Flood Victims

I realize many individuals and agencies, large and small, are helping the flood victims in Louisiana, but there are always some niches to be filled. I have personal contact with the pastors and churches in Vermilion Parish where the flooding was the worst, and they will be working for weeks. The water crested 8 to 10 feet high and the houses will have to be torn back to the framework because of mold. Some can’t even start on that yet.

They need money and they will need labor.

If you would like to help, there are two ways to do it. You can send your money through BIO and we will guarantee that they know who sent it. If you prefer, you can also contact Brother Curtis Gibson directly via his email. He was a missionary in France for a number of years, and now is a church planter. He lives in Abbeville, which is not far from Lafayette. This is the heart of Cajun Country.

If you give through BIO you can get a tax deduction; I don’t know if you can by sending it direct. All I ask is that if you help directly, you would let me know so I can better coordinate my efforts. You may contact me by phone, text or email. Please mark any donations “flood victims.”

Brother Gibson is a precious and hard-working man, and he said to me, “The water stopped six inches from my door. I think the Lord did that so that I could help others.”

You can contact me by phone or text at 865-382-0900.

Send donations to:

Flood Victims
Baptist International Outreach
PO Box 587
Jefferson City, TN 37760

Or donate through PayPal.

In addition to financial support, BIO is organizing a work trip to help with the relief effort. Please download our presentation on the relief efforts.

Your Seed is Growing

Emmanuel and Sophina Onyempka serve in Nigeria.

Early last month I was at my lowest, but God encouraged me on two occasions. One was at a burial I attended. There, a woman hugged me with a wide smile on her face and said, “Your seed is growing.” I said, “What seed?” She replied, “The seed you planted in me is growing, and I thank God for you, thank you sir!” She reminded me how God used me to lead her to Christ and help her grow. This in no small way lifted my spirit, but God was not done with me yet. Two weeks after, on my sick bed, I got a phone call. It was a woman I did not know. She said, “You gave me a Gospel tract along College Road, Sliding into Hell on a Church Pew.” I said, “Yes, but what can I do for you now? She said, “I was that person in that tract, but I am no more there now. You saved me, and I want to meet with you.” Because I was weak, I told her to come to my office after two days. At the appointed time that day, she walked into my office with a wide smile, pulled out that old tract, and said, “You see I was the person in this tract, but you have saved me!” Well, I tried to let her know that Jesus is the Savior, but she continued to say that God used me to do the work. She was full of joy, but I tell you, my own joy had no bound.

Bizuayehu Assefa Home with the Lord

Deaf Pastor and Evangelist in Ethiopia

Bizuayehu Assefa recently went home to be with the Lord. Bizuayehu served faithfully as Pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church for the Deaf. Besides pastoring Bizuayehu did extensive evangelistic work among the Deaf of Ethiopia. He also served as chairman of the board for VICKtory school for the Deaf in Addis Ababa. Missionary Berhanu Yoseph said that Bizuayehu did the work of 10 men and will be sorely missed.

Please pray for Bizuayehu’s wife, Tsehai, and his three children: Lydia, Yeabsira, and Ebenezer. Please also pray for Ebenezer Baptist Church for the Deaf. We know God is sovereign and that He has a plan for the church and for the ministry to the Deaf in Ethiopia.

Revelation 14:13 says, “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them.” Pray that the work of God among the Deaf will continue to the glory of God. Maybe God is calling you to work among the Deaf of Ethiopia?

News From Kevin & Jo Ann Trout

Missionaries serving in Mindanao, Philippines

Praise the Lord for His faithfulness and goodness to us as we serve Him here in Mindanao. Praise the Lord for answers to prayer by way of a new supporter. Please keep this need in your prayers. We pray that others would partner with us financially as well.

We were able to carry out the street children feeding ministry again this past February. What a joy! The Lord enabled us to not only give them a good meal but to preach the Gospel to them as well. We were given the opportunity to share the Gospel to over 200 needy children by the sea shore. After that the children received a hot snack. What a blessing!

We have two more children in our care now. Jo Ann is teaching them also. The two new boys are Noel and Michael. Noel, who is 11 years old, is off the street. Noel’s family does not want anything to do with him, not even his own mother. He was known as a troublemaker and a thief. He recently received Jesus Christ as his Saviour. Please pray for him as he adjusts.

Office News

We praise the Lord for the opportunity to set up the BIO display at the Baptist Friends Meeting in Powell, TN. We were able to make some great contacts and see some old friends.

Our annual BIO Training School has been scheduled for June 28-30. This school will have a special emphasis toward the Deaf. Pastor Bruce Kelly and Richard McMillen will be our special guests. Brother Kelly is the pastor of Deaf Baptist Church in Smyrna, GA. Richard McMillen is a former CPA and the founder of Pulpit & Pew Finances.

Berhanu & Wubit

Missionaries to East Africa

2 elephants walking“Twelve years ago God gave me a vision to work in the region of East Africa. At that time I received a burden from the Lord. Even though I received this burden from Him I struggled when I thought of the practical part of this work. Praise the Lord that things that are impossible to us are possible with Him. By his wonderful grace and providence he opened a door for East Africa Baptist Mission (EABM) in Uganda, Northern Kenya, South Sudan and also in Ethiopia. Because God opened a door for us many lost have been found and churches are being planted, and nearly 1,875 men and women have been trained and equipped in 127 different teaching centers.”

Berhanu and Wubit are in the States through May.
