Missionaries serving in the Far East

We have been very busy in the ministry. We have been working a lot with some of the university students, taking time with them to build relationships so that we can share Christ. It has been fruitful. We have seen three students make professions of faith. One has followed the Lord in baptism. We praise God for the fruit that God has brought into our life. We meet once a week with about five students in our home. My wife will make a meal for them. We will play games like Uno and, most importantly, study the Bible with them. They love this time. One of the students had a birthday. We bought a cake for her. She told us that she was touched at our thoughtfulness and love. She said that no one has ever given her a cake or had a special celebration for her. Please pray for her salvation. Her name is Katrina.

Our English Corners have been going very well too. Most weeks we meet with about 15-20 students in a conference room where we talk about different issues of life. The purpose is to try to get them to see their need of Christ. We are trying to be wise as serpents but harmless as doves, which being in this country requires us to be.

Outfitting The Training Center Kitchen

God has been extremely good to us in the past five years and we are almost totally finished with our Office and Training Center – upper and lower level. We do need one final bit of help, though. We anticipate 30-40 missionaries and their family members coming to our new BIO Missionary Training Center during the training week in June. There is still the need of outfitting the Training Center’s kitchen. Therefore we are seeking benefactors that would help us. Bro. Terry Childers has provided us with the following list of needs and suggestions of how you could help:

  • 25 cu. ft. refrigerator – $1,430
  • 18 cu. ft. refrigerator – $687
  • Electric range – 2 @ $439 each
  • Dishwasher – $423
  • Wall mounted microwave & vent fan – 2 @ $189 each
  • Pots, pans, serving utensils and such – $400

TOTAL NEED: $4,198

Churches, individuals, Sunday school classes and ladies’ missionary circles could make a donation to cover the purchase price of an item (or items). For individuals or groups that are not able to pay for a complete item, they could consider making a $100 contribution. Forty-two such gifts would cover the entire need. If donations could be received by June 3rd, that would allow us to meet our target date of June 10th for having the kitchen fully operational. Praise the Lord, for the first time we can have our meeting in our own facilities.

Missionaries to Northern Spain

Danny & Jordan Bonikowsky

Photo of the Bonikowskys

We are excited that Danny and Jordan Bonikowsky have joined our BIO family. Danny is a third-generation missionary. He graduated from Bob Jones University with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible. He subsequently served at Faith Baptist Church here in Jefferson City for his internship. Jordan has a Master of Arts in Cross-Cultural Studies from Northland International University. The Bonikowskys are headed to Northern Spain as church planting missionaries to the Basque Region.

The Basque region of Spain is home to one of the oldest cultures in the world. The Basques had their own unique language and culture long before Spain was a nation. The Basque are a proud people and their history dates back thousands of years. The people are nominally Catholic; however, the majority of the Basque people show no interest in religion or God.

Missionaries serving in Bali & Sulawesi

God is richly blessing the church and small orphanage in Bali. Our seven orphans are being trained up in the way they should go. Pastor Wayan is working very hard to win the Hindus. It is a slow work, but salvation is of the Lord. The Holy Spirit must draw those who will accept Christ. In February three adults were saved and two baptized. The other one will be baptized soon. Baptism is a big step for a converted Hindu. Many experience terrible persecution. Also, many new people have visited the church.

Our new church in Tondano, Sulawesi is exciting. Sulawesi has long experienced a form of Christianity and they have some very large, beautiful church buildings – but do not know the Christ of Christianity. Our people are meeting under a simple tin roof with no walls, but more people are coming each month. In February, a lady came to the service and afterwards was crying. Pastor Berens’ wife, Jill, talked and prayed with her. She had claimed to be a Christian when she married a Muslim man. After they had four children, he abandoned them. She has accepted the Lord and will be baptized soon. Her eldest son (9 years) started coming to church first and he has told Pastor Berens that he wants to be a preacher.

Pray for Faith Baptist church to be comforted and to make right decisions in the days ahead. Pray for us as we seek God’s will in filling the positions that have been vacated.

New Missionaries Coming!

We always pray and encourage others to pray that God would send forth laborers into His harvest. We are thrilled when BIO can have a part in this answer. We are excited to report that as of right now we have three new missionary couples coming for approval on May 7th.

Danny and Jordan Bonikowsky are headed to Northern Spain. Ian and Candace are headed to the Far East. Dan and Melissa Bode are coming as missionaries through recovery ministry.

We praise the Lord for these missionaries and their obedience to God. Luke 10:2 say this, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.” Thank you for your prayers! The Lord is answering!

News From Victor & Robin Rouse

Missionaries serving in Latin America

The Lord gave me the wonderful privilege of participating in our conference in David, Panama this month. This was the 20th anniversary of having conferences there. About 650 were in attendance at night; 18 pastors from around the area came; and 24 brethren surrendered their lives to the Lord to serve Him full-time! We got to see five people trust Christ as Savior.

It had been 16 years since I had been to Panama, and it was so good to see young men who helped me in the conference years ago. Several have been called to preach and trained, and they are now pastoring; like Roderi Roberto and Rafael Rodriguez. In soulwinning I witnessed to Eric, then Bro. Willis and I visited a man from Australia. He had lots of questions and a sincere desire to learn. He knows he needs Christ. Pray for him…his name is John.

David Cross: God’s Man

Romans 12:1,2 “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world; but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”

I have never known any man to more fully live out this scripture than David Cross. All Christians the Lord “did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,” which will be perfectly fulfilled when we get to heaven. Bro. David demonstrated that as much in this life as anyone I ever knew.

Pastor and Mrs. David CrossOn April 3, 1992 Brother David Cross first met with the Executive Council of Baptist International Outreach. On April 4, 2015 he first met with the Savior and saints in Glory, having given twenty-three years of selfless service to BIO. At that first BIO meeting no one could have known what a tremendous gift God had bestowed upon us. The Bible says there is safety in a multitude of counselors, but many times there is stability in just one counselor. For BIO, and for me personally, Brother Cross was that one counselor.

When I came to BIO it didn’t take long for me to learn the wisdom in seeking his counsel on important matters. A few times our vessel sailed through choppy seas, and without exception I went to Brother David for advice. I always left feeling more secure. When we first learned of his condition, I prayed for the Lord not to require him to suffer needless pain, but to leave him with us as long as He could. He stayed with us for another twelve years. How greatly God blessed us!

During our BIO Executive Council meetings Bro. Cross had the rare ability of being adamant about what he believed without being abrasive in his conduct. He always thought things through carefully and presented his case convincingly. On the rare occasions that his view was rejected, he accepted the will of the majority and never showed a negative spirit.

Brother David served as vice president and treasurer of BIO for many years. He worked tirelessly, many times in great pain, for our benefit, and was faithful when others would have given up. He spent countless hours helping to set up our financial system. He had earned great respect in the community, which allowed him to accomplish unique things. Such was the case with our effort to obtain a new loan to put BIO in a better financial position. The results bordered on the miraculous.

Heaven is richer and we are poorer today, and there is a great void in our hearts and in our ministry. We say “Thank you, Brother David, for allowing God to use you, and for setting such a tremendous example for us to follow.”
