God's Call to Missions
God continues to call men and women to take their place in His ongoing redemptive work, to enlist, labor with Him, and serve among the nations.
History is filled with ordinary people who answered that call: William Carey, Adoniram Judson, Amy Carmichael, Jim Cooper, and Joe and Tanna Collins. God transformed their lives and, through them, changed the world.
“Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Will you go?
General Qualifications
To be considered for appointment with Baptist International Outreach (BIO), missionary candidates should demonstrate:
- A clear testimony of salvation through Jesus Christ
- A consistent, separated Christian life
- A confirmed direction from God toward missions
- Membership in an independent Baptist church
- Appropriate ministry training from an approved institution
Candidates must fully affirm BIO's Doctrines, Standards, and Policies and rely on God for their spiritual, financial, and material needs.
Missionary Training Requirements
Candidates must graduate from an acceptable Bible institute, Bible college, or seminary. In certain cases, the Candidate Committee and Board of Trustees may approve equivalent training or life experience.
The Missionary Application Process
- Pre-Application — Complete the online inquiry form. Once received, BIO will contact you to outline the next steps.
- Doctrines, Standards, and Policies — Carefully read and sign the booklet online.
- Formal Application and Documentation — Approved applicants complete additional online and printed forms. Married couples each complete all required materials separately. Transcripts, medical exams, and other documentation are required.
- Candidate Screening — Once your file is complete, you will be invited to the Missions Center in Harrison, Tennessee, for personal interviews with a Candidate Screening Committee and the Board of Trustees.
Approved candidates attend an annual Candidate School held in June. Final approval is granted by the Board of Trustees, which meets in June and December.
