The Wonderful Gospel Message

By Wale Orekan, Nigeria

Happy New Year! We praise the Lord for another year to serve Him together with you. Thank you, for your faithful prayers and support. Your partnership enables us to preach the wonderful Gospel message.

Praise the Lord for our recent deaf conference. We had 68 in attendance. This was probably the lowest attended conference; yet, we had four great days of fellowship. There were three people who made professions of faith, and everyone else rededicated themselves to the Lord.

Please pray for the family of this young lady who died in a terrible car accident. She was a member of Berean Independent Baptist Church and a faithful camper to Camp Hope. I praise the Lord that she heard the wonderful Gospel message in time!

We thank God for the success of our New Year’s Eve service. This was the first time that we had it at the Deaf Center. This is a new building. This center is on the outskirts of Abeokuta. There were 170 Deaf that attended. Almost one-third of these were first time visitors. A simple salvation message was preached. Several hands were raised for salvation. We collected their contact information and will deal with them individually. It is very important that we have the time to make sure they understand the wonderful Gospel message. Please pray about this.

The Lord gave me the opportunity to lead Ekundayo to Christ. This man came up to me while I was waiting for someone else. He looked so sad and troubled. The first thing that he asked me was, “How can a man be happy?”

I shared portions of Scripture with him from the Book of Ecclesiastes and from Psalm 1. I told him that without Christ there is no happiness on Earth. I then preached the wonderful Gospel message to him. His heart was receptive. He wanted to be saved immediately. Please pray for him; he has gone through a lot in life. His name Ekundayo means my tears have turned to joy! How marvelous!

We are relocating to Abuja this week as mentioned in my last letter. We praise the Lord for providing a significant portion of this cost through faithful supporters. God is good! Please pray for us as we move and re- settle. We are excited. We look forward to what God has for us in Abuja, as we preach the wonderful Gospel message!

Thank you so much for your prayers and support. We love you and pray for you!

Joel Desir November 2019 Prayer Letter

By Joel Desir, Haiti

Dear Pastor and Church Family,
Greetings again in the name of the Lord Jesus. The Lord has been so good to us. There are so many things to be thankful for. Our ministry is doing well. We had the last church service at our old house on October 30th and began meeting at our new church property on November 3rd, even though it is not completely finished. We have been working to put on the roof for the last month. According to the contractor it should be finished December 8th. It is great to see the progress. We only need about $6,000 dollars to complete the church. Thank you for all those who have donated toward this project. New Testament Baptist Church is averaging about 150 people. Eighty one people have been baptized, two hundred forty people have accepted Christ and ten men have surrendered to preach since the church began one year ago.

December 15th-18th, we will be having our first National Bible Conference at New Testament Baptist Church in Haiti. There will be several national pastors attending the conference and four pastors from America who will be preaching for us. We are planning to have evening services with some morning teaching sessions.

Deborah Desir
November 24, 2019

January 21, 2020, we are planning to begin the Bible Institute, with Pastor Paul from Michigan being the first teacher.

God has blessed us with a precious baby girl, Deborah Desir. She was born on November 24, 2019, a few weeks after her due date. We are so thankful for all who prayed for a safe delivery.

I am flying to Haiti on Monday, Dec. 2. Lottie and Deborah will stay until the baby gets her passport to fly to Haiti.

Please pray for the upcoming events. Thank you again for partnering with us.

For His Glory,

The Joel Desir Family

Burgers, Cow Pies, and Sign Classes

The Remington Deaf Ranch Ministers on the Island of Mindanao

Feeding burgers to the 200 Deaf Vacation Bible School kids was a fun task in Tangub City, Mindanao, Philippines for graduation day! We were only there for the last day, but were given the honor to give a testimony and preach. We also helped hand out awards to the kids. Paul and I sang Jesus Loves Me while I signed it. This amazing church held five different Deaf Vacation Bible Schools throughout the city with two or more workers per group. It was a fun time!

One Sunday Paul preached at a church, while I presented my testimony and preached at another church in the same area for the morning services. We had to cross a cow pasture to get to the church. I warned my Remington Ranch student to watch his step, or he might become a cowboy!

We held a sign language class for several days. There are enough students from four churches to have reasonable deaf ministries in each church. Each of these also has potential of doing a deaf Sunday school class. During the classes we had a day for them to teach lessons from the Bible. On another day we had men and boys preach short, four minute messages in signs. The girls shared their life verses. They will grow in time, and Missionary Bob Himes has offered to help them.

We thank the Lord, that many Deaf were saved during our mission trip!

A Word From the Office

We praise the Lord that Travis and Faye Dykes have returned safe from a successful trip to Ethiopia and Zambia. Much was accomplished for Joyce’s Kids Ministry!

We are currently working on plans for our 2019 Training School (June 18-21). We look to have three new missionary candidate families, along with some of our veteran missionaries participate. It will be a great week. Please pray for the planning, preparation, and participation!

Home Safe From Venezuela!

From Jason and Sarah Sykes

We are so grateful for all the prayers of those who followed us via social media (Facebook) through our departure from Venezuela. It has been quite some time since we have been able to communicate through prayer letter because of both the internet situation as well as the electricity situation. While we were still there, I had to be very careful how we communicated as to not draw any attention to us or say anything that might flag the interest of someone who was a Chavista. Although we were never personally threatened, rumblings in the street showed us that things were taking a turn and it was time to leave.

Our departure was nothing short of miraculous. Even our departure has served many in Venezuela as a testimony of God’s faithfulness in the midst of uncertain times. About a week before we left, the whole country had a five day blackout. The only places that had light were the presidential palace and the people who had electric generators. It was definitely a faith strengthening time because as it was happening, we had no idea how long the blackout would last. God was good and even our frozen meat and vegetables were able to be used up until the last day. It was during the next week we saw that the U.S. Embassy was making a complete evacuation of Venezuela. We had seen the embassy evacuate nonessential personnel in the past, but this was the first time that they evacuated everyone and the decision was unanimous that we leave the country. Since our departure blackouts have become the norm.

Please pray for the people there. We struggled with our emotions leaving. Thankfully, the church we left had a national pastor, and God continues to do a great work, but our hearts are still there! Please pray that we will soon see the fall of the dictator in order to return again next year after our furlough.

First Sunday in Haiti

By Joel Desir, Missionary to Haiti

For our first Sunday we had our red truck and white bus to pick up people. Not many rode them, so we thought there might be only a few people for the morning service, but the Lord blessed and surprised us. We had 80 people in the morning service and 93 for the evening service! Most of these people walked to the church. At least 23 people were saved! For the last three weeks we have averaged over 100 in the Sunday services and 22 additionally have been saved.

Worthy of Support!

By John Yingling

It has been a thrill to participate with Go Deaf Missions. The team is made up of John and Tricia Olson along with Paul Mosley and Anna Gilkey. Paul is a BIO missionary and currently on deputation. He is a fine young man and a valuable team member. He is worthy of support! Would you consider supporting him?

Go Deaf Missions

Recently Paul wrote this: “As you are lifting your brothers and sisters in Christ up in prayer, please remember the Go Deaf Missions team and me. The Go Deaf Missions team will be traveling to Peru this March and April. Please pray for the team’s safety, protection, and health. Please pray for our team leader, Bro. John Olson, as he preaches at a deaf camp in Cusco, Peru. Pray for Mrs. Tricia Olson and the other team members as they minister to the Peruvian people. I’m unfortunately not going to be with the team in Peru because I need to focus on raising my support. As for me, I humbly ask for courage to call pastors to set up meetings and boldness to share my burden with churches that I visit. I also need God’s help in preaching because I will be preaching at a couple of churches at the end of January and February this year. Thank you so much for praying for me! May the Lord our God bless you and lead you this year.”

Please contact Paul Mosley for more information or to schedule a meeting with him while he is on deputation.

Joel Desir December 2018 Prayer Letter

By Joel Desir

Dear Pastor and Church Members,

Greetings from Haiti! I want to say thank you for all your prayers and finances you have invested for the dying souls in Haiti. I remember when I came to your churches, I said that if you help me get to Haiti with your prayers and your support it would not take me long to start a church, because I know the language and culture. What makes me thankful to the Lord and happy is because I kept what I said on deputation. We arrived in Haiti on September 29, 2018. We began soul winning immediately, and New Testament Baptist Church started November 11, 2018. For our first Sunday we had our red truck and white bus to pick up people. Not many rode them, so we thought there might be only a few people for the morning service, but the Lord blessed and surprised us. We had eighty people in the morning service and ninety-three for the evening service! Most of those people walked to the church. About twenty-three people got saved! We were grateful for the extra help that came to help us that day. For the last three weeks we have averaged over one hundred in the Sunday services and twenty-two additionally have been saved.

This last Sunday six people followed the Lord in believer’s baptism. This is a big step for them because in this area they are about tradition and they don’t believe in immersion. Bob was one of the men baptized. He came to church a few weeks ago for the first time, but he refused to sit down for the service. He just remained standing. Later that week, I went to visit him. He got saved. When I told him he needed to get baptized after getting saved, his wife tried to discourage him because of their traditions, but after I showed him verses in the Bible, he chose to be baptized! We were needing someone to drive the white bus and Bob wanted to help out. Sunday was his first time driving and he did a fantastic job. We have started the church in the garage of our house and it is already too small for the attendance that we have had. Please pray for the Lord to provide land for us to build his church.

If you would like to contact me, my skype number is 772-266-0122. I have started a face book account under my name Joel Desir and you will see some pictures, videos and online preaching there. Please continue to pray for me as I preach the Gospel to my Haitian people.

In Christ,

Joel Desir
